Dean Googasian graduated from Wayne State University Law School in 1997, where he was ranked first in his class and served as editor in chief of the Wayne Law Review. He received numerous scholarships and awards during law school.
Before graduation summa cum laude from Wayne (J.D., 1997), Dean attended
the University of Michigan (B.A. 1992).
Following law school, Dean served as a law clerk to Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Jean Kelly. Dean then headed to the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. where he served as Special Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Criminal Division. During his time at Justice, Dean received the United States Department of Justice Special Achievement Award for Meritorious Acts or Service at the Justice Department.
Dean returned to Michigan and practiced commercial litigation at a large Detroit firm before joining The Googasian Firm, P.C. in 2001.
In 2007, Dean received the 2007 Distinguished Brief Award from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School for a brief they submitted to the Michigan Supreme Court on behalf of the State Bar of Michigan. The Distinguished Brief Award is given to the most scholarly briefs filed in the Michigan Supreme Court as determined by a panel of eminent jurists.
The award-winning brief was filed in a landmark case considered by the Michigan Supreme Court in which the state’s highest court had to decide whether affidavits notarized outside Michigan would be valid within the state, a decision with wide-ranging implications for citizens, businesses and lawyers across the state. The Michigan Supreme Court ruled in favor of, and consistent with, the arguments made in the State Bar brief filed by The Googasian Firm.
Dean is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Oakland County Bar Association, as well as the American Bar Association, and American Association for Justice. He is a frequent author on Michigan law. In 2009, he was recognized as one of Michigan's Super Lawyers.
